Hook-and-loop sanding disc 125 mm — from the manufacturer
Velcro-backed discs for random orbital and orbital sanders: aluminium oxide on paper backing, versions with 8 dust-extraction holes and without holes, grit from P40 to P320. Wood, metal, filler, lacquer, plastic.
Why 125 mm is the standard for random orbital sanders
Most DIY and professional random orbital sanders — Bosch PEX and GEX 125, Makita BO5041, DeWalt DWE6423, Metabo SXE 425 — have a 125 mm pad with 8 dust-extraction holes. NovoAbrasive 125 mm hook-and-loop discs come in two versions: with 8 holes in this pattern, so dust goes into the dust bag and the abrasive does not clog, and without holes — for pads without extraction and hand blocks.
Hook-and-loop backing lets you change grit in seconds without keys or clamps, and the paper backing with aluminium oxide gives an even, uniform finish on wood, filler and paint coatings.
How to choose grit size
| Grit | Application | Result |
|---|---|---|
| P40–P60 | Removing old paint, lacquer, rust; rough levelling of wood | Fast removal, visible scratches |
| P80–P100 | Sanding wood and MDF, cleaning dried filler | Even surface for further treatment |
| P120–P150 | Preparing wood, filler and metal for primer | Main working grit |
| P180–P240 | Finish before painting or varnishing, sanding primer | Smooth surface without visible scratches |
| P320 | Sanding between coats of lacquer and paint, matting | Matt, ready for the next coat |
Rule: never skip more than one grit — scratches from coarse grain will not come out with a finer one and will show through the paint.
For which materials
Wood and MDF. From rough levelling at P60–P80 to a P180–P240 finish under lacquer or oil; on end grain and knots go one step coarser.
Filler and plasterboard. P100–P120 for cleaning up, P180–P240 before painting; always with dust extraction — gypsum dust clogs the abrasive fastest.
Metal. Removing rust and old coatings at P40–P80, matting before primer at P180–P240. For heavy metal removal use fibre or flap discs.
Lacquer, paint, plastic. P240–P320 for sanding between coats and matting: work without pressure and at low speed so as not to melt the coating.

Tips for use
- Align the disc holes with the pad holes — then dust extraction works and the abrasive lasts several times longer.
- Switch the sander on while it is already pressed to the surface and guide it without pressure — the weight of the tool is enough.
- Brush dust off the pad hooks: a clogged hook-and-loop pad does not hold the disc and it flies off at speed.
- A clogged disc can be partly restored with an abrasive cleaning stick; if it is shiny, it is time to change it.
