What materials are suitable for

Choose the right tool depending on the material being processed

Grinding of welds

Coarse grains P24-P36 for quick removal of weld excess and surface leveling.

Rough metal removal

P24-P40 grit for aggressive removal of a significant layer of metal. High performance on steel and cast iron.

Rust and scale removal

Grit size P36-P60 for effective cleaning of metal surfaces from rust, scale and old coatings.

Preparation for painting

P60-P80 to create optimal roughness before applying primer and paint.

Finishing sanding

P100-P120 grit for fine grinding and surface preparation for polishing.

Stainless steel

Zirconia fibre discs are ideal for INOX due to their cool cutting and lack of overheating.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about fibre discs

What is a fibre disc and how does it differ from a flap disc?
A fibre disc is a Grinding disc with a vulcanized fibre backing coated with abrasive grain. Unlike a flap disc (which consists of flaps of sandpaper), a fibre disc has a continuous abrasive layer. It provides more aggressive material removal and longer service life in heavy-duty applications.
Do I need a backing pad for a fibre wheel?
Yes, the fibre disc must be mounted on a special support (supporting) disc. It ensures proper contact with the surface and prevents premature wear. There are two types in our catalog: smooth flexible (BPFD125F) and ribbed hard (BPFD125H). Flexible is suitable for contoured surfaces, hard - for flat ones.
What grit should I choose for welds?
For rough removal of welds, P24-P36 is recommended. For stripping and leveling, P40-P60. For finishing after welding, P80-P120. Start with coarser grit and work your way down to finer grit for a high-quality surface.
What is the advantage of zirconia abrasive over aluminum oxide?
Zirconia corundum (Zirconia) has the property of self-sharpening - during operation, the grain is renewed, maintaining its cutting ability. This provides up to 3 times longer service life and stable performance. Zirconia is especially effective on stainless steel and hard alloys.
At what speed should I work with a 125 mm fibre disc?
The maximum speed for a 125 mm fibre disc is 12,200 rpm. It is recommended to work at a speed of 8,000-12,000 rpm. Never exceed the maximum speed indicated on the disc. Use a variable speed angle grinder for optimal results.
Can I use a fibre disc without water (dry processing)?
Yes, NovoAbrasive fibre discs are designed for dry processing. The vulcanized fibre base is resistant to heat. However, when working with stainless steel, it is recommended to avoid overheating the workpiece by working with moderate pressure and periodic pauses.
How to properly store fibre discs?
Fiber discs should be stored in a dry room with a relative humidity of no more than 65%. Avoid direct sunlight and sudden changes in temperature. Store horizontally on a flat surface. When stored properly, the shelf life is 3 years from the date of manufacture.
What materials are fibre discs suitable for?
Aluminum oxide fibre discs are suitable for carbon steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals and wood. Zirconia discs are optimal for stainless steel, alloy steels and titanium. Do not use fibre discs for stone, concrete and other mineral materials.
