Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about sanding pads

Why is a sanding sponge better than sandpaper?
The sanding sponge has an elastic base that follows the shape of the surface. Unlike sandpaper, it does not tear at the corners, is comfortable to hold in the hand and has a double-sided coating. In addition, the sponge can be washed and reused.
What grit should I choose for putty?
For rough sanding of putty, use P80-P120. For final leveling before painting, we recommend P180-P240. For a perfectly smooth surface for glossy paint, use P320.
Can the sanding sponge be washed?
Yes, NovoAbrasive sanding pads can be rinsed with water to remove dust and material residue. After rinsing, allow the pad to dry completely before reusing. This will significantly extend its service life.
What is the difference between a standard sponge and a combination sponge?
The standard sponge (26 mm) has a flat shape and is suitable for flat and slightly curved surfaces. The combination sponge (42 mm) has a beveled edge, which allows you to work in corners, grooves and on complex profiles.
What materials are sponges suitable for?
Sanding sponges are suitable for wood, drywall, putty, primer, varnish, plastic and MDF. They are ideal for hand sanding in repair and carpentry work. Not recommended for metal.
How long does one sponge last?
The service life depends on the material being treated and the intensity of use. On average, one sponge replaces 3-5 sheets of sandpaper. Regular washing extends the service life by 2-3 times.
Can I sand wet surfaces?
Sanding sponges can be used for both dry and wet sanding. Wet sanding reduces dust and produces a smoother surface, especially when working with varnishes and primers.
How to hold a sponge correctly when sanding?
Hold the sponge with your entire palm, distributing the pressure evenly. Sand in smooth movements along the grain of the wood. Don't press too hard - let the abrasive do its work. For corners, use a combination sponge, working with the beveled edge.
