Cutting wheel 230 mm - for large grinders
Maximum cutting depth for hand-held angle grinders. Reinforced with glass mesh, for metal, stainless steel and stone. Thickness from 1.6 to 3.2 mm. Three quality series.
When to choose a 230 mm wheel
The 230 mm cutting wheel is the largest diameter for hand grinders. It provides a maximum cutting depth of up to 60 mm in one pass, which allows you to cut thick-walled pipes, I-beams, channels and other massive metal structures without turning the part over.
230 mm discs are used with grinders with a power of 2000 W or more (2200-2600 W is recommended). The weight of the tool with a 230 mm disc is much greater, so they are chosen for heavy work where a large depth of cut is required.
When 230 mm is the right choice:
- Cutting pipes from 50 mm
- Metal structures (I-beams, channels, angles)
- Reinforcement from 16 mm
- Concrete and stone
- Dismantling work
- Construction and industrial facilities
When is 125 mm better:
- Sheet metal and profiles
- Precise cuts in hard-to-reach places
- Long-term work (less weight)
- Household tasks
How to choose the thickness of a 230 mm wheel
| Thickness | Application | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1.6 mm | Sheet metal, pipes | Fast cutting, minimal heat |
| 1.9 mm | Universal cutting | Balance of speed and resource |
| 2.0 mm | Metal and stone | Universal thickness |
| 2.5 mm | Stone, thick metal | Increased resource |
| 3.0 mm | Heavy structures, rails | Maximum strength |
| 3.2 mm | Industrial conditions | For stationary machines |

Safety precautions for 230 mm wheels
230 mm rounds have significantly more kinetic energy than 125 mm, so they require increased attention to safety.
- Use only grinders with a power of 2000 W or more, designed for 230 mm wheels. Never install a 230 mm wheel on a grinder for 125 mm.
- Be sure to use a protective cover. The kinetic energy of a 230 mm wheel is 3.4 times greater than that of a 125 mm wheel - the fragments fly further and with greater force.
- Check the maximum speed of the tool: it should not exceed 6,650 rpm (80 m/s). Overspeeding is the main cause of wheel breakage.
- Always wear safety glasses, gloves and heavy clothing. A full face mask is recommended for prolonged use.
- Do not remove the guard and side handle. The 230 mm angle grinder generates significant torque - without the handle it is impossible to hold the tool securely.
- Replace the wheel if its diameter has decreased to 170 mm or less, if it has cracks, runouts, or if its expiration date has passed (3 years from the date of manufacture).

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum power of a grinder for a 230 mm wheel?
The minimum power of a grinder for a 230 mm wheel is 2000 W. The optimal power is 2200-2600 W. Less powerful machines will not provide stable rotation under load, which will lead to jamming of the wheel and dangerous situations.
Why is the maximum speed of 230 mm lower than that of 125 mm?
The linear speed at the edge of the wheel is the same — 80 m/s. But since the 230 mm diameter is larger, fewer revolutions are required to achieve the same linear speed: 6,650 rpm instead of 12,200 rpm for 125 mm wheels. Exceeding the maximum revolutions is dangerous — the wheel may collapse.
Are there 230 mm stainless steel wheels?
Yes, the PROFI INOX series is specially designed for cutting stainless steel. Available in thicknesses of 2.0 and 2.5 mm. These wheels do not contain iron and sulfur in their composition, which prevents corrosion of the cut area.
Can a 230 mm disc cut large diameter pipes?
For example, a 230 mm wheel provides a cutting depth of up to 60 mm in one pass. This allows you to cut pipes with a diameter of up to 120 mm without turning the part over. For pipes with a larger diameter, you need to make a cut from both sides.
How often should a 230 mm wheel be replaced?
The wheel must be replaced when its diameter has decreased to 170 mm or less, cracks, runs appear, or the expiration date has passed (3 years from the date of manufacture). It is strictly forbidden to work with a worn or damaged wheel.
